All about Kent!

The County of Kent is in South East England and one of the Home Counties. It also borders East Sussex, Surrey and not forgeting Greater London and it has a defined boundary with Essex in the middle of the Thames Estuary. It quite simply oozes heritage and history and, due to its beautiful orchards and hop gardens, is openly known all over the world as "The Garden of England”. Visiting Kent could not be more simple nestled in England's south east corner, less than 35 minutes from central London by high speed rail link. It's a perfect destination for a weekend break or  longer stay and offers a varied choice of accommodation to cater for all budgets and tastes, from converted barns, quaint cottages, b&b's,  to classy city hotels and guest houses by the sea. The South Eastern coastline offers more blue flag 'award winning' beaches than you can shake a stick at, not forgeting top water sports activities for the young at heart!

Godinton House and Gardens

With over 600 years under it's belt, this old country house has so much history to be found.  Taking a look around the house you shall discover each room has a different style and theme to what the architect originally had in mind, yet Godinton House is tastefully decorated and has been enjoyed by those who have visited for a number of years.  There is also a stella country house collection that has been lovingly put together by it's owners.  Many of the pieces date back for centuries, which include portraits of the Toke family, proudly lining the walls.

South of England Rare Breeds Centre

Ever fancied tickling a sheep? P atting a golden goat?  or what about scratching a spotted pig?  No, neither had we!  Why not take a look at what all of the fuss is about and come say hello to the loveable farm animals. With so many old farm breeds roaming the farm.  Starting with an  'Approved Centre of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust' which also houses the now famous Daily Mail 'Tamworth Two'.  There is so much to do for the Kids (not goats) including a Children's Barn, Indoor Soft Play Barn and  Playground. Look a little harder and you shall also find a Plant Nursery, some beautiful Woodland Walks and Trailer Rides.

Canterbury Cathedral and the Canterbury World Heritage Site

St Augustine, who was sent by Pope Gregory the Great, arrived in Canterbury 597AD and as a missionary he went on to become the first Archbishop, where he established his seat ('Cathedra').  For centuries the Cathedral has seen thousands of pilgrims visit the site where Archbishop Thomas Becket had met his maker back In 1170. As most of us will recall, Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales tells the event better than I ever could!

St.Augustine’s Abbey

This Beautiful abbey, marked the rebirth of Christianity in the south of England, and then went on to be founded a little after AD 597 by St Augustine. Little known fact is that the Abbey Originally was created for the Anglo-Saxon kings of Kent - as a burial place.  This Stunning abbey is just outside of the city and is often over looked by tourists. Make sure not to miss out, if you are touring Kent on a budget the abbey also offers a free audio tour of the museum.

Buckmore Park

Love Karting?  Then Buckmore Park  offers you the chance to enjoy a fully licensed, 1200mtr outdoor circuit.  For both fun and corporate events, this track was an old stomping ground for Formula 1 dynamo's Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton and anyone between the ages of 4 & 84 can follow in the British drivers tyre marks. 

Bluewater

Shoping has never been more interesting! (tongue in cheek of course) However being  built within an old chalk quarry, is pretty impressive making Bluewater the  2nd biggest indoor shopping centre in the whole of the UK
housing no less than 330 stores! The overal design and architecture sets it apart from other more conventional shopping Malls. Unlike many shopping centres Bluewater is situated in one of the most 'easy on the eye' locations to ever see a shopping centre. Don't forget to Look up at the imposing 50 mtr high cliffs ( not that you would miss them), Bluewater is also surrounded by a  landscape of impressive lakes and parkland. Where did I put my Credit Card?

Historic Dockyards

Film buffs will no doubt recognise this location as it is often used by many TV and Film producers utilising all of its impressive 80 acre site which includes historic museums, buildings, galleries, warships plus an activity programme, providing more than enough entertainment for a good old fashioned day out!

Port Lympne Wild Animal Park

This park is set in 600 acres of superb British countryside, offerinng the chance to see an impressive collection of animals. All the usual suspects can be found including lions, rhinos, tigers, giraffes and monkeys.  Whilst there you can also take a breather and stroll along the landscaped gardens, as far as all round family destinations go, this is an ideal place to fit in on your break!

Biddenden Vineyards

Yes Kent does have Vineyards!!  Who knew? and Biddenden is the oldest one that Kent has to offer.  It was established back in 1969 by the Barnes family producing both ciders and wines Set in 22 acres of Kent's countryside, settled on a sunny south facing slope sheltered away from the harsh summer weather ;)  It is aprox 1.2 miles away from the stunning wealden village of Biddenden. With ten varieties of grapes being grown to produce, Red, White and Rosé along with Top Quality Sparkling UK wines. The Traditional Cider of Kent  has been lovingly made here at Biddenden for over 20 years along with scrumptious farm pressed (non alcholic) apple juices.
